FAST & SPEED USA PREPARED CROSSKART WINS SEASON OPENER AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY
Kevin Madsen took the #81 Fast & Speed prepared crosskart to the top step of the podium against a challenging field Saturday night
Perris, CA, February 25, 2019
– Each year the total number of Formula X crosskarts in the field grows. For the inaugural race of the 2019 season, there were a total of 7 entries to do battle on the Perris Auto Speedway rallycross course coming from 3 different manufacturers. Throughout the night there were battles of up to 5 cars wide with one victor taking both the heat and main event title. Crosskarts USA karts never started the race but the other two manufacturers including Lyfe Motorsports / Sierra Cars and Fast & Speed USA put on a great show for the chilly and more limited spectators numbering over 2,000 in the stands.
2018 Formula X season champion and accomplished road racing driver & coach, Kevin Madsen , was selected to campaign the #81 crosskart prepared by Fast & Speed USA that ended up victorious. “Igor and the team at Fast & Speed USA let me know the day before that they wanted a win against some stiff competition and I was just happy to show up after a full day of road racing coaching and put this well prepared crosskart into P1. This isn’t a car I’ve driven as-is so it’s something to be said for anyone who is thinking of jumping in to drive for a race or purchasing a chassis. You can adapt super quick and still win.” said Madsen.
First up was the 3 lap shakedown which was a great opportunity for all drivers to get used to the cars and course. Adam Palagin
returned to the field after successes in previous seasons utilizing the revamped #4 Fast & Speed 600cc
crosskart. A big warm welcome was sent to the Lyfe Motorsport crew with their high powered 1300cc Sierra Cars
and owner Cole Powelson
brought in a “ringer” to join him as a driver in the form of famous stuntman and offroad racer Greg Tracy
. Tracy is best known for his Hot-Wheels stunt-driver roles including the upside-down loop in addition to many movie appearances sliding cars around.
The first heat had #4 Adam Palagin take an early lead with battles through the pack ensuing. Contact between the #3 of Cole Powelson and #82 of Igor Palagin occurred with both drivers emerging okay and the crowd loving the fight. Eventually #81 Madsen made his way through the pack during the 6 lap heat to the number one spot with frequent position changes occurring behind.
For the main event it was all business and as the karts lined up for the start you could almost hear the green flag wave over the relative silence beside the ready-to-scream motorcycle powered crosskarts. As the flag dropped it was pros Tracy & Madsen who battled it out for the #1 spot. Madsen chose an alternate line approaching turn 1 which allowed for him to gain an advantage out of turn 2 and the lead. Into turn 3 the crowd were on their feet as the two made contact with Tracy battling hard and ultimately taking the lead. Coming out of Turn 5 Tracy went wide and Madsen attacked to the inside taking the lead down the straightaway and into the high speed Turn 1. From their Madsen held that position in his 750cc Fast & Speed prepared crosskart for the remainder of the 15 lap race with a lot of action behind.
Later in the race #4 Palagin and #3 Powelson made contact into perhaps the most challenging corner on the course, Turn 1. Palagin got around Powelson thereafter allowing him to finish in the 2nd overall spot with Powelson taking 3rd and rounding out the podium in the 1300cc Sierra Cars.
